What is PC-BSD?

PC-BSD or PCBSD is a Unix-like operating system built upon the most recent releases of FreeBSD. It aims to be easy to install by using a graphical installation program, and easy and ready-to-use immediately by providing Lumina, KDE SC, LXDE, Xfce, and MATE as the desktop environment. It provides official binary Nvidia and Intel drivers for hardware acceleration. OpenMandriva Lx 3.0 Recommended Hardware

  1. OpenMandriva Lx 3.0 requires at least 1.6 GB of memory (min 1GB), at least 10 GB of hard drive space (see below for known issues with partitioning).
  2. If you wish to run the live distribution (the option to Start OpenMandriva Lx at the CD boot screen), you must have at minimum 1.5 GB of memory. At least 2 GB of memory is recommended for optimal performance.
  3. Release is available for x86_64 architecture, The i586 and ARM architectures are being worked on, but are not yet available for this release.
  4. The KDE Plasma Desktop requires a 3D graphics card that supports OpenGL 2.0 or above.
  5. The same hardware requirements apply when running in virtual machines.

OpenIndiana 2016.04 New Features and Improvements

The OpenIndiana project, which is a continuation of OpenSolaris, has released a new version of the community-maintained operating system called OpenIndiana 2016.04. The new release offers a number of improvements to package management and includes several package updates to such desktop applications as Firefox, Thunderbird and VLC. New nlipkg zone brand was introduced, which behaves like old ipkg brand (i.e. it doesn't check child and parent images for consistency). It's possible to convert ipkg zone to nlipkg one. To do so, install system/zones/brand/nlipkg, change zone's brand to nlipkg and remove /var/pkg/linked inside zone. Text installer now can configure network parameters using sysding.

NuTyX 8.2 New Features and Improvements

The NuTyX project produces a French distribution based on the Linux From Scratch and Beyond Linux From Scratch guides. NuTyX 8.2 contains many software updates and is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit x86 builds. The new release features version 4.4.6 of the Linux kernel, Firefox 45 and version 5.3 of the GNU Compiler Collection. The boot of the installer is changed. It is possible to choose a debug mode. It's possible to erase an already installed NuTyX and then directly replace it with a 8.2 version.

Overall the applications have been streamlined and slimmed down, even with the inclusion of three small Assistive Technology programs, like a magnifier and onscreen keyboard. This version of LXLE was pretty difficult. A number of GNOME applications had to be replaced with their MATE twin applications to maintain a consistent user interface. Programs and solutions had to come from many different sources.
